News From Rwanda Visit
!
February 14 2008
Yes it's us in Rwanda. We have all
arrived safely, and all the gear too with no problems at
the customs - praise the Lord. We have got over our lack
of sleep and have just finished the first day of
teaching that David and I had to do at the Bible
College.
Please pray for Rwanda, as the rains have come very
early, and very heavily. We have had heavy rain every
day and this is worrying the people as it could wreck
the crops. This is another side effect of global
warming.
Everyone is enjoying themselves and learning a lot. We
are being looked after like kings, and initially
wondered if we were in a third world country. We have
now seen clearly we are, as we have got out and about.
Next to the wealthy are those in abject poverty.
Do give our love and greetings to everyone in the
Waterfront Churches.

IPSWICH Town
fans have
responded
generously
to a church
group's appeal
for
football shirts
to take to
Rwanda.
Thanks to some
new year
kindness from
Blues
supporters, the
group from
Ipswich
waterfront
churches will
have 150 home
and away shirts
packed in their
luggage when
they fly out to
the central
African country
next month.
As the African
Nations cup
reaches its
climax, the
group of nine,
led by Rev Paul
Daltry of St
Helen's Church,
will give out
the shirts to
football-mad
Rwandan youth
groups, whom
they hope will
become avid Town
fans from more
than 6,000 miles
away.
They will also
arrive with four
laptop computers
to help equip a
new theological
college.
The trip will
mark the latest
development in
the link between
the three
waterfront
parishes - St
Helen, Holy
Trinity and St
Clement with St
Luke's - and
Anglicans in
Kigali, the
Rwandan capital.
In recent years
the parishes
have donated
thousands of
pounds to
support projects
in the city, as
well as others
in the north and
east of the
country. These
have included
tree-growing
schemes, water
tank
installations
and training
programmes for
pastors.
Mr Daltry, who
worked in a
Rwandan mission
station for six
years before
arriving in
Ipswich, said
the group were
grateful to all
the fans that
contributed: “We
would like to
say a very big
'thank you' for
their generosity
- it will mean a
lot to the
children in
Rwanda.
“Football is of
big interest to
them and for
them to be able
to identify with
a team in
Britain will
mean a great
deal. It is a
privilege to be
taking the
shirts to them
and to be
helping them
learn to play
games together
and grow
communities
through it all.”

Town trips for wanda
Town strips for Rwanda
The Revd Paul Daltry and eight people from the Ipswich
Waterfront churches, are visiting the central African country
next month with 150 official home and away shirts and kit,
kindly donated by Ipswich Town fans.

For some time the three Ipswich parishes have been donating
thousands of pounds to support projects in the capital, Kigali,
as well as in the north and east of Rwanda. These include tree
growing schemes, water tank projects and bursaries to train
pastors. The parishioners are also taking four laptop computers
for the new Kigali theological college.
"In Rwandan culture, making the effort to visit people is very
important. Spending time and sharing meals, means far more to
our African Anglican friends," says Paul, who worked for a six
years in a Rwandan mission station. He says the parishioners
can't wait to see the projects they have been funding. "People
who do trips like this are changed by the experience, mainly
because they begin to question their own set of priorities
having seen those in the developing world." (Courtesy of

Rwanda
Direct was
established in 2002 to
assist individuals,
families and communities
living in Rwanda to
maintain their
independence following
the atrocities of the
1994 genocide. All funds
raised are used to
provide practical
support; this may be
with repairs to the
homes of orphans &
widows, the provision of
schooling for children
or the purchasing of
goats for families to
enable them to promote
self-sufficiency.
